$1.3 Million Given to 3 Provinces for Food Intake
The European Commission in Cambodia recently signed an agreement with the Ministry of Agriculture for a $1.3-million food security project in Mondolkiri, Ratanakkiri and Oddar Meanchey provinces, and EC program officer for food security Hem Chanthou said last week. The EC’s Cambodia office will also receive about $5.8 million for the integration of food security issues into EC development projects in early 2009, Hem Chanthou said during the National Workshop on Rising Food Prices on Thursday. The food security project targets women and rural poor and will run from May 2009 until December 2011 and reach 6,000 to 10,000 villagers. It will support food production, improve farmers’ market access and provide training to optimize nutritional intake, Hem Chanthou said.

NEW HEIGHTS
Construction Workers at Phnom Penh’s
First Skyscraper Defy Gravity-and Fear
In a city where the highest natural relief is the 27-meter-tall Wat Phnom temple mount, construction workers are used to staying close to the ground.
But with economic growth comes land pressure, and Phnom Penh, too, wants its titan-the status symbols of a newly rich metropolis. So workers have climbed to new heights to build the capital’s first skyscraper.
